Bio

Maria Berner is an interior designer by profession and a self-taught artist. Santiago de Chile, where she was born 29 years ago, has always been her setting and her inspiration: its high mountains, proximity to the sea and its marked seasons, bringed her closer to art and creation every day. The colors, the earth and her pursuit for design, drove her to work in ceramics, drawing and painting.

Stains and layers inspired by the landscapes that surround her, as well as The Tree, as a seal in most of her paintings, represents for her life and how big dreams can grow and how real they can become true: such as the trees, free against the movement of the wind, firm, rooted to the ground, and always growing in search of light. She visualizes the colors of the first layers on her blank paper, and then, she gives room to her imagination regarding the color combination. The stain ultimately works as a support for lines and figures, that can be trees, birds, or whatever feels more appropriate for each painting.
