Gen Aso
Painter
Bio
Born in the United States in 1987. Lives and works in Japan. When in age of 35, he started painting as if possessed by something. He completed his painting to dedicate it to his grandmother who treasured his childhood paintings. However, she passed away without being able to hand it over directly. He dedicated his feeling by putting a painting in her coffin and cremating it. Since then, he has put his mind into artworks so that artworks will resonate with the spirit like her grandmother. In Japan, the awe has been depicted in the form of “Oni” (a man-like creature in Japanese folklore) since ancient times. However, he believes that they can be loved by someone who is different from being a demon to someone. Through invisible “Oni”, he wants to deliver paintings that reach invisible spirit. And he wants to bring his “Oni” to various worlds. That's why he draws “Oni”. In 2022 he begins artistic activities.
