Socrates Sandman Sapounas is a self-taught writer, painter and cartoonist from Athens, Greece. He specializes in surreal esoteric portraits, comics and poems. Through his art he explores themes of escapism, isolation, violence, ecstasy, delirium and above all identity and transformation. He produces existential daydreams and psychedelic paintings that expose the inner conflicts, delights, delusions and disillusionments of everyday life. He prefers working with traditional mixed media on paper and favors the mixture of pencils, charcoal, ink, acrylic and oil paint and occasionally gold leaf. He studied Communication, Media and Culture in the Panteion University of Athens and has an MA in Communication studies and Cultural Management. He has produced concept/cover art for several fellow creators internationally and as of 2020 at the center of his creative endeavors lies the ongoing independent graphic novel series Metamorphosis (Self-Published-Kickstarter 2021).
