This work is a meditation on the illusory nature of power. It depicts the King and the Fool as one and the same. The King wears the tilted crown which is ill fitting… the Fool wears the Dunces hat. The words of the Elizabethan poet and spy Christopher Marlowe are carved into the surface of the board with a chisel ‘What are kings when regiment is gone but perfect shadows on a sunny day’
