Bio

Studying as an architect, Siberian born artist Alex Bras minored in academic art. Although art was always her passion she only dared to pursue her artistic dream after emigrating to the Netherlands during the covid’19 pandemic. Against the backdrop of a world in turmoil Bras began to depict the crises of her sub-jects while studying the overarching human condition. The individual’s inner world is the main focus in her work and depicted through symbolic uses of lan-guage and imagery.
In her last series “Humans and Fish,” Bras used marine life to explore stories of loneliness, happiness, reproductive problems and the horror of war. Through working with used cardboard Bras simultaneously studies the costs of art materi-als, the artistic craft and the statement an artist is capable of making. As a result “Humans and Fish” was premiered during a solo-exhibition in May 2022. The artist has since added additional works to this series and began work on a new collection titled “Nuclear Paradise.”
