Bio

Marisa Contreras Marulanda (Bogotá-Colombia, 1986) is multifaceted woman who com-bines in a very interesting way her intellectual capacity with her artistic facet. Marisa is a plastic artist, political scientist, gender expert (PhD), researcher and writer. She is a self-taught artist who discovered her passion for painting at a very young age, when she start-ed painting abstract pictures. She was only seventeen years old when she made her de-but as an artist with a solo exhibition in the art gallery of Aseneth Velásquez in the city of Bogotá (2003).

She then moved to Spain where she lived for several years and studied Political Science and Public Administration at the Complutense University of Madrid. In this city, the Co-lombian Consulate invited her to exhibit her work in a solo exhibition in 2006. During her academic studies, Marisa delved into research on feminism, a subject that deeply capti-vated, became her passion which is why she decided to pursue a master's degree and a doctorate in interdisciplinary gender studies and equality policies (University of Salaman-ca).

Her constant desire to learn new languages and immerse herself in different cultures brought her to Germany, where she not only learned the language fluently, but she also continued to investigate in depth her doctoral thesis, without abandoning her passion for art. After finishing her doctorate, she immersed herself more intensely in painting, captur-ing new realities and scenarios on her canvas; she started working in her series Dreaming with the city (2018, -) and Reborn (2021).

“Art is for me, a vital necessity, a universal language that everyone understands; a mind-field in which energy flows and connects us beyond borders and everything makes sense.”
