This painting, with it's smash of blue over a warm layerd field resembling a sunburst, reminded me of the scarab beetle upon it's completion. The scarab was considered to be sacred by the Egyptians for it's deep blue color but also for it's propensity to travel towards the sun. The beetle's daily chore was to collect dung into a ball which it would roll sunwards. At the end of the day it would dig a hole and eat the dung ball by night. It would then repeat this process the next day and the day after that. I could relate to the beetle's arduous task because it had taken me 2 years to make this painting.
