Bio

Philip Ryder Dunn once got a history degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Then he received a master’s in journalism from the University of Southern California. He had a career as a journalist, marketing consultant, non-fiction author, and college media professor. One day he opened his eyes a little wider and became a different kind of artist. He sketched his hand, found some canvases in a dumpster, borrowed some oil paints, and proceeded to put down oils in pleasing ways. Now Dunn paints impressions of the ocean and various scenes of wonder. He combines photography and wandering with a forceful push to look closer and see what’s right in front of his nose - which is often scenery that’s very nice. He also writes poems, plays ice hockey and pickleball, and surfs almost every day. He has three teenage children that provide endless delight.
