Vacuum I is part of a 3 part series of illusory motion effects that was created from a photograph of wood ash. The series was inspired by an illuminating conversation I had with my previous partner. We had an acrimonious separation that has not gotten better with time. During this particular conversation, I felt like I was being sucked into a bottomless vacuum of illusions. I realized that the more I participated and believed the illusions, the more I seemed to lose my sense of self. That moment created an enormous shift in my psychological consciousness and has given me a better understanding of the power of awareness and presence. Similar to the wood ash that has been burnt into unrecognizable particles of its former sold state, humans also have the ability to change our physical forms into shells of our former selves when we become encapsulated by our illusions.
