Bio.
Cyes was born in Japan on December 25, 1986.
While studying fashion during their student years, deepening a sensitivity to form and the human body, his teenage fascination with Polaroid cameras gradually evolved into a pursuit of portraiture.
Today, alongside managing his own company in the field of technology, Cyes works as an artist specializing in Instax Mini.
Artistic Statement.
The Instax Mini film is a brutally beautiful and refined medium, one that attempts to seal a single, irreversible choice within a frame no larger than a business card.
Within it, I sometimes perceive both a misogynistic arrogance and the fragile vulnerability that lies beneath it.
Things are often perceived as “points”, isolated moments in time, but every point has a before and an after; a continuity.
I believe the same is true for people, and for society.
Which moments are deemed worthy of preservation, and which are overlooked?
Each “point” is always the result of someone’s choice, our own, or someone else’s.
And often, I believe that what lies just outside the frame, those invisible befores and afters, is where the real warmth or truth resides.
That’s why I focus less on what is shown, and more on what was omitted:
the moments discarded, the presence that slipped through, the feelings that couldn’t be captured.
