Bio

After my studies at Cheltenham School of Art and St Paul’s College (University of Bristol) in England, I taught painting at St Crispin’s Secondary School, Wokingham, near London. After some years, I moved to Rethymno in Greece, where I established myself as a landscape painter. In August 2021 I held my 13th solo exhibition of landscape paintings at the Venetian Fortress in Rethymno under the auspices of the Municipality of the town. How do I approach my work? First and foremost I go out and look for striking images in nature – calm sea, rough sea, mountains, trees, reflections, and the sky – in short, the miraculous play of light in its myriad manifestations. I use sketches and photographs to record the image, then back in my studio I deconstruct the image and finally I recompose it trying to produce what I believe is a beautiful painting by modifying colours, altering the composition where necessary, employing dramatic contrasts … the list is endless.
