Josetta Jones I was born in France, raised in Germany, and moved to Paris in my late teens. I lived there for about 10 years and then moved to Brussels, where I currently live. I have always had a strong interest in aesthetic perceptions, which influenced my life and career choices – I have been working in the fashion and interior design industry for 12 years now. It helped me develop my sense of colors and visual concepts. A few years ago I began to paint and so discovered a true passion. Today, I am a self-taught artist and I mainly work with gouache and acrylics. The core of my art revolves around women’s portraits. Every portrait reflects beauty, womanhood, and imperfections. The portraits all show different forms of expression, some seem soft, some pensive, and some more assertive. I believe women are all different, unique and beautiful in their own ways. The strength and resilience a lot of women exhibit strikes me and being a woman myself I like to draw upon my personal emotions and world views. Every portrait I have created is influenced by a woman that inspired me in some shape or form. Each woman in my paintings is brought to life by giving her a name and a story, giving her a unique ‘voice’. I hold each one of my paintings close to my heart – it feels as though I have given life to my imagination by creating a soul.
