Roydan Barboza, aka Captain Barbozart. Born and raised in Dubai. I’m a multidisciplinary contemporary artist and muralist. Started doodling in preschool, and couldn’t hit the brakes. Moving onto doing mu-rals in commercial spaces all around the UAE. Whilst completing a BCOM in marketing from UOW, Dubai. Being self taught, I wanted to master my practice. I’ve recently graduated in a BFA majoring in Painting from RMIT school of Art in Melbourne.


Each artist tends to leave behind a unique clue, and I've been working towards this in my practice. My process is still unveiling more of itself by via a multitude of techniques such as vivid colour schemes, combining past & present symbolism and compressing and expanding space. I hop between the digi-tal and analogue realms, to find a variety of techniques and methods. My paintings are dense with ref-erences that tell the story of my experience as a global citizen, growing up in several different coun-tries and cultures. I am also interested in the relationship of the digital image to the painting. I'm play-ing with color and movement in these spaces and trying to replicate digital marks that carry weight on the canvas in a way they don't on a 12.9” inch screen
