Kenny R.K. is a Japanese artist who mainly work with pastel on drawing papers/illustration boards and, sometimes, oil on canvas.
He grew up in a rural area in the north of Japan, in a not necessarily wealthy family. When he was in the second grade of elementary school, he won a prize at a national children's painting contest and became interested in painting, but he did not pursue a career in painting due to an incurable disease and so on. Instead, he aimed at high career in both his studies/academic and business professional, and continued to study/work hard to achieve it. He also has about 19 years of equestrian experience and has competed in national competitions.
As for painting, he sometimes drew as he thought of it when he was in high school and during his business career, but he never seriously entered into the art world. However, his desire to paint grew stronger, and at the age of 50, he decided to seriously study and start painting.
When he started learning and was drawing the gentle smile of a plaster statue of the Virgin Mary, he realized that painting can express "feelings". Since then, he has continued to paint the emotions he has felt throughout his life, such as pain, worries, hopes, happiness, loneliness, deep emotion, and gratitude.
Also, while working at Benesse, Japan's most famous educational company, he was deeply impressed by their philosophy that "Economy is the servant of culture." He believes that while it is important to develop the economy and companies, it is more important to promote culture and make people spiritually rich. He pursues the expression of the conflict between the mechanisms of economic society and individual emotions.
