Bio

My name is Ian Deatrick and I studied Studio Art at Michigan State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts. I specialized in Electronic art & minored in Video game design. After ex-ploring various 2D and 3D software, my recent work investigates the unlimited potential of frac-tals. A fractal is a geometric object in which the same patterns repeat at different sizes and scales. Fractals are common in nature; some examples are waves, snowflakes, and branching trees. I use math formulas inside of Mandelbulb 3D (software) to generate a fractal. Then, I can change the formula to adjust the fractal’s form. I also add shadows and reflections, and edit colors and lighting. I’m currently working from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
