Symbiose
2024
Info
Size: 48 x 38 cm
Technique: Oil, cotton on cardboard
Description: In this work, I explored the fusion of materials, using oil and collage to create a rich texture. I covered the cardboard with the rest of a fabric with which I created light fittings in 2020, then painted the empty spaces. This is an imitation of the Bogolan textile (bogo = earth; lan = from), the original of which is a hand-spun and hand-woven cotton canvas from Mali. My painting delves into abstraction with elements of primitivism and symbolism, evoking the deep roots of our collective existence. The motifs, at once archaic and fresh, invite us to reflect on the relationship between the human and animal worlds; depending on our interests, we eat them or stroke them. They too have a similar attitude to us (lion, mosquito / dog; cat). Each shape and line is a celebration of intercultural dichotomy, promising to bring thoughtful, inspiring energy to any living space.
