Born in Southern California, Ryan remained focused on drawing, soccer, fitness, surfing, and staying active. Surrounded by a creative family, he could remain devoted to unlocking his inner creativity whilst pursuing a career in business. It wasn’t until his college experience at Arizona State University where Ryan focused his efforts in portraits. He progressed from graphite portraits in figure sketching classes, to acrylic painting, digital drawing, and eventually into his love for oil painting. Ryan was initially taught on a Zorn Palette with figure painting. He has moved towards a contemporary approach, where the Zorn Palette lays a foundation and new relationships are formed between colors. Ryan now resides in Santa Monica where he focuses on bringing his lively, vibrant, impressionistic portraits to life. His philosophy in painting is what he practices in life, “Don’t try to carefully plan it out, utilize your fundamentals, past experiences, and gut instincts to formulate your result. You may be pleasantly surprised where you land.
