Rather than depicting an identifiable city, the painting constructs an inner metropolis where architecture becomes the physical manifestation of emotional experience. Buildings rise and collapse into one another, bridges connect impossible distances, and streets dissolve into dark currents, suggesting that the landscapes we inhabit are ultimately shaped by remembrance as much as by stone.
