Erica Nyström is a self-taught artist. She has always loved to create, but her creativity has been slumbering for 15 years while focusing on her career as a pharmacist. However during the year of the pandemic her family took the big decision to leave a hectic city life in Stockholm for the calm town of Boden in the far North of Sweden. The beautiful nature and inner peace made her dormant creativity explode, into intuitive, abstract art.
The view from her balcony is most often the source of inspiration. The beautiful colours of the sky in the evening, the contrast in a flowing river or the mountains on the horizon. The creative process is based on the feeling coming from inside and the purpose is to make the viewer share that feeling.
Erica works with acrylics, creating complex textures, which are always present in her paintings. She creates with many different tools – palette knives, brushes, sponges or simply layering paint with her fingers. She is also in love with metallic paint, which is always a feature in her art.
