Hélène DeSerres
Painter
Bio
Pluridisciplinary artist, Hélène is a photographer a watercolorist, mixmedia painter, sculptor and jewelry designer. She was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and, after completing her classical studies, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.
While on a two year stay in Quebec City, she joins painting and drawing courses in a private studio. During this stimulating period, she discovers the art of sculpture and copper enamel. Upon her return to Montreal, Hélène is initiated into the ethereal world of water color with a master from China, and completes her apprenticeship studying sculpture in clay. At the Allende Institute in Mexico, she experiments with lost wax technique and creates her first bronze sculptures. In Montreal, she further applies these techniques to her unique jewelry creations.
An avid photographer since early childhood, fiercely passionate for adventure and travel, she is fascinated with exploring the many diverse cultures and the intense beauty of this planet. Prolific artist, Hélène DeSerres work has been recognized internationally through numerous exhibitions and has received several awards in painting, sculpture and photography. Using various media, she loves to create a new and mysterious universe using transparencies, textures and vibrant colors evoking both the surrealism of the images and the mysteries of nature.
In her studio, she loves playing with forms and colors to create in an organic way. Her eclectic journeys account for a lot: from watercolors to clay, from lost-wax to bronze, from pencil to acrylic, all these materials and experiences serve as a backdrop for works which she describes as intuitive. Since she’s deeply concerned about climate change and all the upheaval we are experiencing today, her works evoke nature, consciously or unconsciously.
