Bio

Elisabeth Sofie Wiggen “I am present when I create” I´m a Norwegian/ Sami woman born in Trondheim. In my artworks I take interest in women’s strength and simultaneous vulnerability in all the roles we can take on, and which we believe are required of us, to fit into today’s society and in the relationships we have. I strive to paint a mood / feeling in all the faces and bodies of the women that appear to me. The expressions hover between classical, figurative naturalism without being completely so, to more abstract colorful impressionism. I have a coloristic approach to enhance the expression and meaning in many of my pictures. Due to my Sami origin , I want to implement more elements and symbolism from my heritage into my pictorial expressions. It may show in my use of color or choise of motives. Nature means a lot to me, and is one of the cornerstones of my well-being. I may have periods where I am just engrossed in painting, but the longing to use nature as a healing tool is always present. I love to paint it the way I experience and see it, then it becomes like a recreation during the painting process as well.
