Born in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, António André felt a vocation for the arts early on. Pursuing what was already innate to him, he received a degree in Fine Arts from ARCA-EUAC - University School of the Arts of Coimbra. It is in painting that André finds the strongest connection to his artistic expression. A self-proclaimed expressionist, his paintings embrace intimacy and subjectivity to recreate what he sees. Through an inside-out process, he captures the majestically spontaneous and instinctive while mirroring the deep and peculiar emotions he feels. His dripping painting technique with conferring intensity, fluidity, and even drama is a constant characteristic in his practice. The movement, or the allusion to it, comes through singular synchronous strokes combined with an unusual chromatic expressiveness. Aspects of the sublime appear throughout each work. André considers himself an eternal learner who is constantly transforming and improving the way he lives and expresses his art while maintaining the integrity that is his own identity. Today, André has exhibited in numerous collective and solo exhibitions. Additionally, he has participated in various competitions receiving prominent awards.
