Robbie was an early experiment. Influenced by the look on urban walls where erosion mixed together tags, graffiti and posters, I thought of my approach as vandalizing my own work. What I discovered from this experiment was the much greater degree it suggested all kinds of unanticipated directions. Not only was this more fun but the final product is much different then the original concept. I now treat the start of a painting as a place to jump-off from into the unknown, and then allow myself to see where it takes me without any strict preconceptions.
