Year: 2021
Size: 13” x 21.5”x 8”

Description:
“Kabukimono” can be translated as “strange things” or “crazy ones”. Traditionally they were known for their eccentricities and differences to ordinary people in dress, hairstyle, and behavior. The term “kabuki” can be read in two different ways depending on which kanji is used: it can mean both “traditional Japanese theater” and “lifestyle, way of living”. In this piece, there is a “kabuki” face hidden inside the outer layers made using the artist family’s name, pattern, and crest. It’s somewhat similar to a British tartan.
