Esaí Alfredo Figueroa Ruiz, is a painter, printmaker and illustrator born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He received a bachelor's degree in illustration and painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) in 2020. In his last year at PAFA, Esaí began to create primarily nocturnal images, a motif that he continues to explore nowadays. Much of his work is composed of different original photographs that the artist puts together to create a final composition. His preferred media are painting, printmaking and digital illustration. The result are images with a dreamlike quality, am-biguous spaces, inhabited by characters aware of their surroundings, sometimes confused, look-ing for something or simply observing. Esaí has participated in group exhibitions such as Tenses: Queer Bodies Trough Time in Philadelphia, and The Privilege of Getting Together in New York. Cur-rently, Esaí resides in his hometown, Yabucoa, where he is preparing a new body of work.
