ミナカノヌシ - Minaka no Nushi

2022

Info

Technique: Cotton cloth, acrylic, soft pastels on panel
Size: 910×1167mm

For me, Japanese mythology and gods were strangely familiar because my father used to perform Kagura (dance dedicated to the gods of Japan).
In Japanese mythology, there is a word “musuhi”, which refers to a great power that nurtures everything, and Japanese mythology also begins with the appearance of the cosmic god at the center of everything and the two creator gods who control that power.
The roots of all living things, including human beings, are varied, but the only common denominator is the emergence of life.
Combining the broad concept of life and the view of life in the culture in which I grew up, I have combined the two to depict the first god in Japanese mythology (Amano-no-Mikazuchi) as an ode to the abundance of life in diverse cultures.
