Bio

Aparna Artist Biography I was born and raised in the southern India steeped in traditions and culture. Moving abroad to Singapore and settling down in Indonesia opened my windows to a new world. I am versatile and enjoy exploring different mediums, though the forgiving nature of acrylic makes it my preferred medium. My formal training in art was through my undergraduate degree in the History of Art-Drawing and Painting, and my postgraduate degree in Design from the National institute of design. While this formal training laid solid foundations of technique and appreciation of the different forms of art, my informal training through my grandmother brought out the artist in me and to date, one of my early paintings is displayed in the national children’s museum Chennai. I took a hiatus from painting and concentrated in textiles for 10 years. But resumed my passion for painting three years back. I have exhibited my painting in local exhibitions and conduct workshops for art enthusiasts when I am not painting. Statement Art brings my dreams and experiences to life. I paint my emotions, aspirations, my fears and my experiences - I paint me and the journey I go through in making sense of the world around me. It is an emotional exploration of moods, textures and colours, quite often leading me down an uncertain path. Imperfection defines my style which recognizes the reality that everything around us is work in progress. The canvas and paint are just tools to capture the authenticity of my experience and the colours being the gateway to the emotional interaction with my work. Every piece of work is a treasure chest that holds my thoughts and encounters in life – it fills me with joy and hope.
