Bio
Biography.
Toshihiko Shimizu was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, in 1957. He was raised in a family that ran a textile dye shop and tailoring business and currently works as an embroidery artist.
His first awaking as an artist came when he encountered the work of Jackson Pollok. Confused yet deeply moved, he was drawn into profound meditation.
Although he has only been practicing calligraphy for a year, it has given him the conviction that this path in innate.
He has just begun his creative journey, and this exhibition marks his first public art presentation.
Toshihiko spends his days caring for the local shrine, participating in volunteer activities, and serving in the fire brigade.
He has been writing waka poetry for two years.
