Bio
Monica Velazquez was born in Mexico City the spring of 1973. Since she was a child, she showed her interest and predilection for arts, aesthetics, colors and shapes. She was influenced by her mother, always looking for the aesthetic side of things, her father who invented and created furniture and decorative objects, her grandfather sculpting human and organic figures in wood and her grandmothers doing magic with their hands in the kitchen or making beautiful embroidery, crochet and fabrics. She was surrounded by textures, colors, aromas, and flavours, perceiving beyond the simple shapes looking for the background and essence, finding the beauty of things. She always showed her affinity with fine arts and everything that could be appreciated with the senses and created with the hands and soul. She ventured into various disciplines until she decided to formalize her studies in Fine Arts at the Universidad de las Americas, Puebla in Mexico. Great teachers have been key in her development as an artist, such as José Lazcarro, a fine arts artist, and Luis Kelly, a filmmaker. Both generous in sharing their knowledge, their talent and their laughter. Her main objective when creating an artwork is to capture moments and eternities in colors, textures and shapes that each person can experience within themselves as their own, by absorbing the essence and enriching the finished artwork into endless ways of perception.
