Bio

Ekitai Latex is an emerging artist whose creative practice is rooted in a spontaneous and intuitive approach to drawing and digital creation. Although he has never exhibited in solo or group shows, Ekitai has cultivated a significant presence through selling postcards at flea markets and engaging consistently with the online public.

At the heart of his art are the “GENKAIJIN,” characters that represent humans pushed to their limits, transformed by extreme experiences into beings that, while possessing monstrous traits, retain a tender and reassuring appearance, akin to a plush toy. The name itself, “GENKAIJIN,” is a blend of the Japanese words for “limited” and “monster” (a humanized echo of kaiju, the giant monsters of Japanese cinema).

The artist creates his characters initially with a simple ballpoint pen on an inexpensive notebook, without preparing drafts or preliminary sketches. The creative process then continues on the iPad, where he adds colors and backgrounds, often using photos taken with his iPhone during walks in search of landscapes that evoke solitude and marginalization. This method of digital collage allows Ekitai to infuse his works with a sense of place and atmosphere, blending real and imaginary elements. He is heavily influenced by Japanese manga and anime, as well as monster films, particularly by the works of Tohl Narita, the creator of Ultraman and many iconic kaiju. This influence is evident in his attention to detail and his ability to convey complex emotions through visually simple forms.

Ekitai Latex continues to evolve as an artist, experimenting with new ways to express the human condition through his genkaijin figures. His dedication to telling stories of marginalization and resilience makes his work a unique voice in the contemporary art scene.
