Bio

My name is Alita Chandra Wig and I was born in 1964 in London. I’m a self-taught abstract artist and a professionally trained textile designer. During the past four decades I have evolved a very unique style and distinct vocabulary of expression. I use pens, inks, water colours and acrylics on archival paper. My work is the expression of the unconscious in me. I have no control over the contents of my paper. It is a flow of my inner energy.

STATEMENT: I DANCE ON MY PAPER. Time and again art has played havoc in my life. It has brought me pain and pleasure. All my feelings just tumble out on my canvas. Lines, colours, and shapes immerge very instinctively. As a child I have been surrounded by artworks of my world renowned parents, Avinash Chandra and Prem Lata Chandra. Circumstances allowed me less time with them and more with their paintings. As a result, my interaction with and reaction to solitude took the form of art over the years. I seek solace, a way of dealing with my life, my existence, and my purpose through my art. Our lives are never in the form of a straight line. There are innumerable number of twists and turns that we take into our stride. I feel life flowing through me. My artworks are my translation of life itself. They all speak of different emotions one feels at different moments of the journey. Intense, passionate, deep, and strong are my lines that create my pictures. I come alive on paper with my lines.
