Bio

Vonne van der Meulen Vonne van der Meulen (Rotterdam,1958) started painting and drawing as an autodidact. Thereafter she attended to a correspondence course in model drawing – including model drawing with a living model – and illustrative drawing and painting. Later on she studied Art Therapie at Academie de Wervel and drawing and painting at Vrije Akademie de Leuwenburgh. Recently she started with Adel Sypesteyn's digital art lessons. Nowadays Vonne is mainly working abstract with acryl and mixed media. Sometimes she likes to work with oil and cold wax. Vonne's work is an inner conversation with universal interfaces. She can start with an idea, but the idea can also be created in an interplay between herself and the work in progress. While she's working, she's enlarging, accentuating, adding and subtracting, to that what she wants to be present in the painting, or to what makes itself visible during the process. How she ends up with a composition, through reaction, interaction, confrontation and tension between the different actors – paint, color, shape, markmaking and brushwork –, intrigues her over and over again. Vonne is inspired by movements, shapes and colors appearing in nature, and by the connection these aspects of nature make with experiences, feelings and the little things of daily life. In her art she's trying to elevate all this in an universal experienced, not observable reality. She loves the beauty of imperfection. Structures created by natural weathering processes intrigue her. Since april 2020 Vonne has been working on integrating geometric spaces and shapes in her work with sharp edges and lines. Nowadays it has become a part of her way of working. Sometimes she likes to work with oil and cold wax.
