MJ Cooper is based in Columbus Ohio and is an artist who is self-taught. MJ Cooper has been painting since the age of eleven. MJ uses acrylic paints on stretched canvas often with ink and texture. Suffering from a rare neurological disorder, painting is therapeutic for the artist. The artist’s daily challenges include visual, cognitive, neurological and audible impairments. MJ regained vision after losing it for six months, due to meningitis that triggered severe photophobia. Despite physical impairments, MJ’s feelings and hopes are expressed through painting. Every painting is therapeutic or a result of meditation. MJ’s paintings have been in the Art Possible Ohio Art Tour 2020 & 2021, Franklin County Treasures Office Art Exhibit, Art on Permanent Display at The Cleveland Clinic Pain Management Clinic , Art on Permanent Display at SEIU KY/WV/OH Headquarters, and Ohio Congressional 3rd District Art Show 2020, Springfield Museum of Art, Handsford and Sons Emerging Artist Online Platform, Gallery M & Art Online Gallery and Le Galeriste Wearable Art- Montreal. Through the artist’s pain and struggles, beautiful art has been created. It gives hope and speaks to perseverance.
