Bio

I graduated from Sogo Geijutsu High School, a high school for fine arts, and I am currently a ronin preparing to enter Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. I am 19 years old. This work was originally created for my graduation exhibition at high school, and I also exhibited it three more times while I was a student there.

For this piece, I joined two 180 cm × 90 cm veneer panels, pasted various types of paper onto the blue central area, and drew on the surface with dark blue and gold pens. It took approximately three months to complete, resulting in a densely layered and intricate work.

The concept combines dreams and constellations. I have a constitution that allows me to dream more vividly than most people, and since childhood I have been drawn to the world of dreams. Dreams are fantastical, mysterious, and captivating, a world completely different from the reality we only see in movies or games. For me, reality was often painful: wings did not sprout from my back, I did not ride trains in the sky, magic did not exist, and days were monotonous and dull.

I saw a connection between dreams and constellations, which have long been a refuge for my heart. Both appear at night to guide and support us. Dreams emerge from the memories within us, while constellations emerge from the stars in the sky. Constellations are formed by connecting one star to another. A single point, when linked with others, becomes a path, guiding us as we struggle in reality. Similarly, the world we inhabit is composed of countless dots (cells, atoms, and particles) everywhere, always offering a path to follow. For me, this is the world of dreams. Yet, the dream world is only a guidepost; the path I must walk is reality.

I recognized some parallels with the concept of the exhibition you invited me to. I believe that the moment we awaken from a dream is a moment of transformation. While I wish to remain in the dream world, I must live in reality. Within this unstable boundary, I try to live in transformation, connecting and tracing the stars.

When you are lost, look up at the sky and connect the dots in the night sky. They will guide you.

These reflections are embedded in this work.
