Bio

I am a self-taught photographer who creates surreal and dark imagery using my photographs and imagination. I am heavily influenced by music, stories from my childhood, as well as the elements of normal everyday life. Melding what I see, know, and feel, together to tell stories through my eyes. Self-portraiture allows me to create a larger narrative. I often venture out into the unknown and capture moments using my Nikon or Sony. While most of my work is self-portraiture, I also dabble in the arts of drone videography. It provides me with elements that I can later composite together in photoshop. I enjoy creating art that is open to interpretation. I add elements in each piece that allows the mind to wander and wonder. With their unique experiences when viewing art, they are able to tie their interpretations with their personal narratives. While my approach towards my art is centered around dark and enticing atmospheres, I believe they can be read as inspiring and empowering. The hidden message in all my work is based on human empowerment and achieving success through trials and tribulations. As a child in South Dakota, I would take photos of snow piles and ridiculously boring things. I would take my 35mm film into the store to develop and would have to wait a whole week to find out that I didn’t have anything good but I was so excited to see what I captured, and so the passion began. I didn’t get my first digital camera until shortly after my son was born 17 years ago and I have pushed forward ever since. I have a passion for learning that drives my creativity. Photography feeds both the artistic right and logical left sides of my brain. It’s something that I can’t satisfy in any other way. My photography preference is to not have a preference. I have dabbled in all sorts of photography from fine art, landscape, portrait, and event although I have focused more on the landscape and fine art genres. I use a variety of tools to create my images. In my camera bag, I have a Nikon D750, a Sony a7ii, and DJI Mavic 2. At times, I will use strobes and flashes but enjoy using Photoshop with my Wacom Intuos Pro tablet to complete my images.
