Description:
“Stanley Kubrick, known from films such as The Shining, A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket. I was in contact with people who were close to and admired Kubrick. The more I got to hear, read about him and watch some of his movies and documentaries about him. I became more and more fascinated by Stanley. His films have gained icon's status as they are the most idiosyncratic and distinctive films in film history.
One of the key elements of Kubrick's visual style is his use of symmetry and geometry. He frequently employs symmetrical compositions and geometric shapes, such as circles, triangles, and squares, in his shots, creating a sense of order and structure. That is what I want to highlight in my paintings.”

Britt-Marie Tidemand is a Swedish self-taught artist who has exhibited widely in Scandinavia, England, Italy and New York. At her solo exhibition hosted by M.A.D.S. Art Gallery, she presents six works, five of which are part of the series dedicated to the famous American movie director Stanley Kubrick.
This choice stems from the fact that she was in contact with people who were close to the director and admired him, and because of this she was deeply fascinated by him. The five works exhibited depict Kubrick's face, different each time, against predominantly red backgrounds, in which geometry and rationality prevail, represented by the geometric figures of circles, triangles, cubes and rectangles that alternate on the canvas. Not surprisingly, one of the key elements of Kubrick's visual style is the use of symmetry and geometry: he often employs in his films symmetrical compositions and geometric shapes that create a sense of order and structure. The director, whose face is always central, is thus erected as a sacred and hieratic figure, also made possible by the golden beams of light that give the work a sense of mysticism.
The sixth work exhibited, “Style”, depicts a dark-skinned figure with a red jacket and ample hat, positioned against a background of orange tones, which give the work a dark and sensual appeal.
Tidemand portrays the emotions buried deep in our psyche with fearless intensity, with this beautiful, long-limbed figure standing in the center of the canvas, as if from a dream. With her work, she wants us to feel, hear and see at all costs. Even if that means dragging us into the flames, blasting our ears with cries of agony or dazzling our eyes with beauty.
