Title: Sentenced to Live Year: 2016 Size: 5760 × 3840 (digital) Project Title : Apryl’s Fight Project Description : I have known my subject, Apryl Roberts for a long time. Our husbands met in high school and now they run a business together. She was diagnosed with Stage IV Inflammatory Breast Cancer during her pregnancy. I know Apryl, her kids and her husband. I am also a mother of two children. I had a compelling wish to do something for her and her family more than just donating money or bringing them home-cooked meals. Apryl enjoys being photographed and sometimes asked me to take photos for special occasions. I knew the best way to give her my support is to document her journey. I asked her if she wanted me to document and share it with the public. She loved the idea and I have been visiting her with my cameras whenever she asks me to come. We hope her story can inspire other cancer patients to have a positive fight like Apryl no matter how hard it is and let them know that they are not alone in their fight. (The project was documented in 2016. Apryl had tumors in her brain removed twice since but she is now cancer free). Artist: Rika Manabe
