Clare Thatcher

Artist

Bio

Clare Thatcher is an artist based in Bristol, UK, whose practice is rooted in painting and drawing. At the core of her work lies a deep engagement with pure colour, which she creates by hand from raw pigment. Her artistic process is profoundly connected to a sense of place, often inspired by specific landscape features—particularly in coastal and tidal areas—that evoke a powerful emotional response. She holds a BA (Hons) in Drawing and Applied Art (2011–2014) from the University of the West of England and an MA in Fine Art (2014–2015) from Bath Spa University. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, with shows in New York, Los Angeles, Liverpool, London, Oxford, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, and Bath. In 2018, she was selected for the prestigious John Moores Painting Prize Exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. More recently, she was a prize winner at the Sunny Art Prize 2022, participating in the London group exhibition at the Sunny Art Centre, Gray’s Inn Road. She also received recognition through the Bath Open Art Prize 2023. Her works are held in both private and public collections across the UK, USA, Germany, and Switzerland.
