Bio

Pivot is an interesting word. It’s a word my husband and I have used a lot over the years. Pivot. My art journey which started about 10 years ago was a big pivot on many levels and one that rescued me from hard times and now brings a fulfilment to my life that is hard to explain. At that time, our family business was hit hard by the recession, the kids were heading off to college and my parents were aging, rapidly it seemed. I had never picked up a paint brush before, did not think of myself as an artist but for some reason I signed up for a class at the local college needing an escape and I figured this was better therapy than pouring that next glass of wine. As the story goes, it was love at first stroke and the colours and compositions made sense to me immediately. I soon began painting on wood, don't ask me why, and it was with the wood I dis-covered this was more than just therapy. Over the years with a lot more pivoting and pure de-termination I have been able to make a living doing this thing I love called SallieOart. I have been in British Vogue, GQ and House and Gardens, and galleries in New York and California, and my brand now includes designer jewellery, painted clothing and home goods, and more. Soon this brand will be bigger than myself and my husband, but the art will always be me. A while ago I was asked at a dinner party what was my "superpower" in life. I forget exactly how I answered then but today I would answer "my openness to pivot".
