Description:
“Play It Again, Dwayne (2026)” engages with the iconography of the American West as a culturally constructed myth. The cowboy, cowgirl, horses, cabin, and landscape do not function as narrative elements but as signs within a collective visual memory - visual ciphers for a free spirit, authenticity, and a sense of the open horizon.
The scene unfolds within a tension between perception and imagination. Spaces of experience form an implicit background without asserting themselves as concrete references. In the painterly process, impressions are transformed, displaced, and layered with iconographic fragments of cultural mythology.
The West thus appears less as a geographical location than as a site of projection - an aesthetic construction situated between memory and media-shaped narration. The work reveals the constructed nature of this myth without denying its affective force. It operates within a field of tension between deconstruction and re-enactment.
