Bio

Klaus Nordhoek Biography. My name is Klaus Nordhoek, I am 44 years old and I live in a city outside Copenhagen Denmark. I´m a self-taught artist. I started early in childhood expressing myself visually through drawing and painting. For me, it is the imagination, the play and the development of the ideas that motivate me as a human being. The ability to let go in the creation process, is what I seek to achieve, and I never quite know where the work ends or takes its start. Art, creative thinking and the creative urge is an important factor in my life, and you are hereby invited to be a part of my journey. Klaus Nordhoek Artist statement. Nordhoek grew up in a suburb of Copenhagen and felt attracted to the colorful graffiti works that appeared on the city's gables, train stations and wooden fences at an early age. Today, it is his bubbling creative urge that drives him towards the blank canvas, the brushes and the strong colors that have become his hallmarks. Previous fascination with graffiti shines through in Nordhoek's use of contrasts, but it is not a conscious choice. In fact, there is not much awareness of Nordhoek's works; when the brush hits the canvas, nothing is planned in advance. Instead, he tries to let go of the reins to make room for the unexpected and the unconscious. By letting the brush guide - and otherwise paint in sparse lighting, which results in the strong and contrasting colors - Nordhoek's artistic expression moves in the abstract crossroads between the concrete jungle's visually penetrating graffiti and the nature's organic, free-flowing lines. In the color composition and depth of the works, an effervescent energy arises which - in contrast to the art academy's dogma that art must provoke, divide and create debate - instead creates joy and brings people together. Nordhoek's paintings have a beautiful and simple complexity, but even he is not much for interpreting his works; this task falls on the viewer.
