Reflection is an oil painting based on the theme of movement on water. I used both paint and printmaking to work through this theme. My interest with painting the surface of water began last year when I was working from home. I began going to my local park and taking photographs of the surface of any water I could find; puddles, streams, ponds. I would throw something into the water and capture the distorted reflection in the water. I am really interested in how the reflection sitting on the surface of the water can turn into something entirely different from something as small as a pebble hitting its surface. Due to the nature of this theme, I feel that using a variation of scale is interesting. Water has the potential to be powerful, dangerous and chaotic but it also is often a symbol of wisdom, calm and relaxation. Water can be the sea, vast and mostly unknown. Or a puddle on a path, harmless and unthreatening. I want to use scale to help emphasise the duality of water. For this reason, I think that the nature of this exhibition would be very interesting with my work. Reflection is a highly detailed painting that allows the viewer to see more as they lean into the work. In this piece I have experimented with the different language of paint.
