Bio
Bio
Nicholas Ferguson is a British-Swiss artist, born and raised in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2005 he moved to London, feeling the pull of the ‘big smoke’, and the city has been my home ever since. Largely self-taught, He studied art until I completed secondary school. His childhood was spent reading encyclopaedias, creating and acting out comics and games and experimenting with different media - from oil painting to pottery; photography to poetry; collage to conceptual multi-media and sculpture. After completing a degree in hospitality, he pursued a successful career in the beauty industry and eventually set up my own branding consultancy. During these years he continued to explore my creative interests and refining my artistic skills, knowing he wasn’t truly following his calling, and in 2019 he established @TheColourofSplash, an Instagram profile to formally display his art to the public. In 2022 he decided to focus on his artistic pursuits.
Statement
“What if art is the elixir to human suffering?” I believe art has the power to heal, transforming lives and society. My work explores this premise. Occasionally provocative, and often playful, my works draws attention to what it means to be human, exploring our idiosyncrasies with the intention of contributing to our transformation. I’m highly curious about our potential as human beings and digging down into the human experience, I see openings to support our growth. These ideas come to me intuitively after seeing an image, an experience or coming to a realization about our behaviour. I’ll often have a concept in mind for a collection, which seems to bubble from a liquid space within, popping at the surface. My mind then starts to wander looking for references from all manner of places. My practice centres around oil painting and makes use of collage and other mediums to create impact, with the aim that it challenges the audience through a journey of discovery - questioning, release and lightness.
