“From an early age, I had an overwhelming urge to broaden my vision beyond what I was seeing through my viewfinder. I experimented with various analog tools and techniques— double exposures, unusual film stocks, non-traditional filters, and darkroom tricks. I wanted to alter the reality of a given moment and expand my personal definition of what constituted a good picture. Advancing technical options now allow my vision to continuously evolve and grow. I see today’s pushbutton visual effects not as a threat to the purity of my art, but rather an ever growing set of paints and brushes for my pallet. My images go far beyond a single effect and are the results of hundreds layers and untolled hours of critical decisions and artistic execution. I’ve revisited a lifetime of photo archives and have comfortably embraced my compulsion to alter the verisimilitude of a well composed and exposed photograph. I’ve come to realize that I don't necessarily remember people, places, and things in tidy photo-realistic images in a perfectly framed world. I prefer fragments and impressions of moments that come together in my own personal reality that I can share with the rest of the world.”
