Description:

Belize was colonized by the British monarchy who were made wealthy by using slavery for lumber and later the exploitation of Mayans for farming sugar cane along with a complex history of oppression of Belize people. Still today the queen’s image is used on Belizean currency and Barbados is one of the few Caribbean countries to declare themselves a republic to remove the queen as head of state as part of a campaign that includes strengthening ties with African Nations that Caribbean heritage is derived from. This work is just that rejection of the British Monarchy in favor of decolonizing history. Belize is still today the subject of interpretation in terms of its history and development.
