Jacob Newey is an abstract photographer focusing on distressed urban surfaces. His goal is to extract and highlight beauty in the entropic process, as man’s artifices start the jour-ney back to the perfect order of nature.
As we navigate through our urban environments, our brains constantly categorize a myri-ad of shapes, colours & textures as symbols. Often, we only notice the superficial meaning of these symbols and move on – that’s a sign, that’s a car, that’s a road. He aims to strip the symbology from these ordinary items in order to access the simple joy of form without function.
The artist tries to achieve a painterly effect for his images, to present the framed surface as a unique work of art for the enjoyment of the viewer.
