Bio

“Reawakening the power of wonder”: Anne-Gaëlle Elie’s creative work has its roots in literature, which she taught for over 10 years. To the taste for words was added that of movement and performance: theater, music, and dance, which have always been part of her universe, impregnate the works she creates with their language. The surface of the paper or canvas becomes the stage on which a choreography is invented, a melody is improvised, a play is performed: the lines and curves give birth to characters, the colors, through the whole palette of their expressive nuances, interpret the dialogues, sometimes in a lyrical mode, sometimes satirical. At the crossroads of calligraphy, surrealism, stained glass art and street art, between abstraction and figuration, his work is an invitation to curiosity and interpretation. Combining the freedom of the intuitive inaugural gesture with the quest for the refinement of the line, his approach is based on the desire to awaken the power of wonder and questioning. Each sketch, like a new being thrown into the world with its potentialities and its fragilities, seeks its way: it is a ques-tion, to blossom fully, of extending paths, of digging furrows, of fleshing out or refining certain features, of conquering new spaces, until it finds its proper place. The artist invites the viewer to explore the possibilities, to take the time to follow the curves, as on a road map, to see where they lead, and to rediscover, through the sensations offered by the chromatic vibrations, the in-finite reserves of beauty that the world offers us.
